There's no benefit of doing it and it really opens you up to a lot of potential harm,' Dr Ann Arens, a medical toxicologist at the Minnesota Poison Control System told the .'It burns as soon as you drink it.'  The colorless, odorless chemical used in these cases is often stronger than the three to five percent concentration that can be bought at a drug store.Consuming the toxin can burn holes in the esophagus and stomach, according to Dr Stephen Hendriksen, an emergency medicine doctor at HCMC. He said they can also create oxygen bubbles that will be released into the blood stream. Those can then travel up to the brain and cause seizures and stroke-like symptoms.
